Portugal's industrial production experienced a 2.6% increase in May 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, showcasing a notable recovery after two months of significant declines. This resurgence was predominantly fueled by a remarkable 18.0% surge in energy production, a stark contrast to the modest 1.5% increase recorded in April. Additionally, there was an improvement in the output of capital goods, which rose by 1.7% after a previous decline of 4.9%, and intermediate goods saw a slight rise of 0.1% compared to a decrease of 1.4% earlier. Conversely, the production of consumer goods continued its downward trend, dropping by 1.6% for the third consecutive month. This decline was evident in both durable goods, which fell by 0.7% compared to the prior 1.1% decrease, and non-durable goods, which contracted by 1.7% following a 3.5% drop. On a monthly comparison, industrial activity grew by 1.9% in May, building on the 1.3% increase observed in April.
