In May 2025, the number of job resignations in the United States increased by 78,000, reaching 3.293 million, up from a revised 3.215 million in April. However, this figure remains below the 3.355 million recorded in the same period last year. The quits rate, indicating the proportion of individuals voluntarily leaving their jobs relative to total employment, edged up to 2.1% in May from April’s 2%. Notable increases were observed in the sectors of trade, transportation, and utilities, which saw a rise of 70,000, and in leisure and hospitality, which went up by 53,000. Analyzing the data by region, job resignations rose in the South by 107,000, in the Midwest by 12,000, and in the Northeast by 2,000, while a decline of 44,000 occurred in the West.
