Fiji Consumer Prices Fall 0.6% in June

In June 2025, Fiji experienced a 0.6% decrease in consumer prices compared to the same month last year, overturning a previous 0.1% increase observed in May. This represents the second instance this year where consumer prices have fallen, largely due to a general decline in most price categories. Notable downward pressure came from the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector, which dropped by 2.6% compared to a 1.5% decrease in May. Similarly, the housing sector experienced a 1.4% reduction, transport declined by 4.4%, clothing and footwear saw a 2.5% decrease, while recreation and culture remained steady at a 0.6% decline. Meanwhile, furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance saw a decrease from a 0.4% increase in May to a 0.6% decrease in June. Conversely, there were upward pressures in the pricing of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose by 5.1%, education remained stable with a 0.5% increase, and miscellaneous goods and services shot up by 9.0% from 8.8% in the previous month. On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in June, slightly less than the 0.3% increase recorded in May.
