Switzerland Consumer Prices Edge Up in June

In June 2025, Switzerland saw a slight year-on-year increase in consumer prices by 0.1%, recovering from a 0.1% drop in the previous month, which marked the first decline since March 2021. This latest data surprisingly deviated from market predictions, which anticipated another 0.1% decline. Notably, the prices in the restaurant and hotel sector rose by 1.6%, up from 1.3% in May, and apparel and footwear prices also bounced back to a 1% increase after previously declining by 0.3%. Housing and energy expenses held steady at a growth rate of 1.1%, while food prices leveled out, showing no change following a 0.3% decrease in the earlier month. In contrast, transport costs continued their downward trend with a 3.7% decrease, and recreation and culture prices also dropped by 0.1%, maintaining the same rate as in May. The core inflation rate, which excludes volatile elements like unprocessed food and energy, inched up to 0.6% in June, rising slightly from May’s 0.5%, which was the lowest in 44 months. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices experienced a 0.2% increase in June, improving from the 0.1% rise recorded in May.
