Kenya GDP Growth Remains Robust in Q1

In the first quarter of 2025, Kenya's economy grew by 4.9%, slightly less than the previous quarter's 5.1% expansion, which marked the highest growth in a year. This growth was widespread, with the agricultural sector leading the way with a 6.0% increase in output, benefiting from favorable weather conditions in major farming areas. Other sectors also saw robust performance: information and communication grew by 5.8%, wholesale and retail trade by 5.4%, real estate by 5.3%, financial and insurance services by 5.1%, and public administration by 6.5%. Professional services and transport experienced growth rates of 4.6% and 3.8%, respectively, while accommodation and food services increased by 4.1%. The mining sector saw a substantial 10% surge, construction expanded by 3%, and manufacturing by 2.1%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, GDP rose by 0.8% in the first quarter, marking the smallest increase in a year, following a downward revision of a 1.7% rise in the last quarter of 2024.
