In May 2025, retail sales in the Czech Republic increased by 5.3% compared to the previous year, surpassing market predictions of a 5.2% rise. However, this growth marks a slowdown from the revised 5.7% increase recorded in April. Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco grew at a more modest rate of 0.2%, down from 4.4% in April. In contrast, sales of automotive fuel surged to 14.5%, up from 11.4%, and non-food products also saw a notable rise of 7.1%, compared to 5.3% previously. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade experienced a 0.2% decline, the most significant drop since January 2025, reversing a 1.2% gain in the preceding month.
