Retail sales in Romania experienced a slight increase of 2.7% year-on-year in May 2025, down from a revised 2.8% growth recorded in the previous month. This represents the slowest expansion in retail activity since December 2023. Growth in sales of automotive fuels moderated to 1.2% compared to April's 1.8%. Meanwhile, trade in food, beverages, and tobacco continued to decline, dropping by 1.0% following a 0.3% decrease. On the other hand, non-food product sales saw an accelerated growth rate of 7.7% compared to 6.1% in April. On a monthly basis, retail trade dropped marginally by 0.1%, after a revised decline of 0.6% in the previous month.
