The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh eased to 8.48% in June 2025, down from 9.05% in May, marking the lowest level since July 2022. This decrease was primarily due to a reduction in the growth of food and non-alcoholic beverage prices, which posted their smallest rise since April 2022, with an increase of 7.39% compared to 8.59% in May. Transport inflation also saw a slight moderation, moving from 6.64% to 6.43%. Additionally, price growth slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (17.55% compared to 21.48% in the previous month) and in the health sector (4.24% compared to 4.78%).
Conversely, inflation continued to escalate in sectors such as housing and utilities (up to 7.66% from 7.45%), communication services (rising to 7.85% from 7.79%), and recreation and culture (increasing to 8.26% from 7.78%). Education costs rose slightly to 8.39% from 8.22%, with similar upward trends seen in hotels (11.09% from 10.99%), clothing and footwear (15.40% from 15.35%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (8.84% from 8.76%), as well as miscellaneous goods and services, which climbed to 15.25% from 13.84%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.57% in June, a recovery from the 0.32% decline seen in the previous month, marking the most significant monthly rise in three months.
