Tanzania Inflation Rate Edges Higher in June

In June 2025, Tanzania experienced an uptick in its annual inflation rate, reaching a three-month peak of 3.3%, up slightly from 3.2% in May. The primary contributors to this increase were the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which surged to 7.3% from 5.6% in the previous month. Additional upward pressures were observed in the categories of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose to 3.5% from 3.4%, and education costs, which slightly decreased from 3.2% to 3.1%. On a month-to-month basis, there was a 0.3% rise in consumer prices for June, compared to a 0.1% increase noted in May.
