Canada Jobs Unexpectedly Rise

In June 2025, Canada's employment numbers saw a significant increase, rising by 83,100 jobs, a leap following the modest increase of 8,800 in May. This growth surpassed market expectations, which had predicted stability in employment figures. The expansion was predominantly fueled by part-time positions, which increased by 69,500, while full-time roles experienced a smaller rise of 13,500. Notable employment growth occurred in the wholesale and retail trade sectors, which gained 34,000 jobs (an increase of 1.1%), alongside the health care and social assistance sectors, which saw an addition of 17,000 jobs (a 0.6% increase). However, the agriculture sector experienced a decrease, losing 6,000 jobs (a decline of 2.6%), while other industries did not exhibit significant changes. On a provincial level, Alberta led with an increase of 30,000 jobs (up by 1.2%), followed by Quebec with 23,000 new jobs (a 0.5% rise), Ontario with an addition of 21,000 jobs (up by 0.3%), and Manitoba with an increase of 8,500 jobs (a rise of 1.2%). Contrastingly, Newfoundland and Labrador experienced a reduction of 3,500 jobs (down by 1.4%), as did Nova Scotia, which saw a decrease of 3,400 jobs (a drop of 0.6%).
