Poland Trade Deficit Widens in May

In May 2025, Poland's trade deficit expanded to €1,443 million, compared to €1,019 million in the same month the previous year, marking the 13th consecutive month of deficit. The country's exports increased by 4.2% year-on-year, reaching €28.2 billion, spurred by higher shipments in sectors such as toys, clothing, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and agricultural goods. Nonetheless, there was a continued decline in exports of consumer durables. Imports, on the other hand, rose by 5.2% to €29.6 billion, driven by increased purchases of armaments, consumer goods, and agricultural products. The overall import value, however, was somewhat mitigated by a significant drop in crude oil prices, which hit their lowest point since September 2021 due to subdued global demand and a weakening U.S. dollar.
