Australia's unemployment rate, adjusted seasonally, increased to 4.3% in June 2025, halting a five-month period of stability and exceeding market predictions, which were set at 4.1%. This rate is the highest since November 2021, with the total number of unemployed individuals rising by 33,600 to reach 659,600. The number of people seeking full-time positions grew by 3,900 to 326,600, while those in search of part-time work rose by 9,200 to 175,600. In contrast, employment saw a modest rise of only 2,000 to reach 14.62 million, falling short of the anticipated 20,000 increase, after a revised decrease of 1,100 in May. Part-time employment increased significantly by 40,200, totaling 4.56 million, whereas full-time employment experienced a reduction of 38,200, bringing it down to 10.06 million. The participation rate slightly declined to 67.0% from 67.1% in May, aligning with market expectations. Additionally, the underemployment rate rose marginally to 6.0% from 5.9%. The total monthly hours worked across all jobs fell by 19 million, reaching 1,974 million.
