In the three-month period leading up to May 2025, employment in the United Kingdom saw a significant rise, with an increase of 134,000 individuals securing employment. This growth follows an 89,000 gain noted in the preceding period and exceeds expectations of a 46,000 increase. This marks the most substantial employment surge since February, driven by gains in both part-time and full-time positions. However, there was a decline in the number of full-time self-employed individuals. Compared to the same timeframe the previous year, employment jumped by 754,000, primarily attributed to rises in full-time and part-time employee positions. Additionally, the employment rate for individuals aged 16 to 64 edged up by 0.2 percentage points, reaching 75.2%. The number of individuals with second jobs rose to 1.325 million, making up 3.9% of the total employed population, showing growth both within the quarter and against the same period last year.
