China’s Rare Earth Exports to US Surge 660% in June

China experienced a significant increase in its exports of rare earth magnets to the United States in June 2025, with a 660% rise from May, totaling 353 metric tons, as reported by the General Administration of Customs on Sunday. On a global scale, China's exports of rare earth permanent magnets amounted to 3,188 metric tons in June, reflecting a 157.5% increase from the 1,238 tons recorded in May. This growth is attributed to recent agreements aimed at reducing restrictions and reviving the global supply network. Despite these gains, exports were still 38.1% lower compared to June 2024. As the leading supplier of over 90% of the world's rare earth magnets, China entered into a series of agreements with the United States last month to reopen trade channels for these materials. These accords followed export restrictions imposed by Beijing in April, which significantly disrupted global supply chains and led to the shutdown of certain automobile factories. Although there has been a notable rebound, the total exports for the first half of 2025 reached 22,319 metric tons, showing an 18.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
