Colombia’s Imports Rebound in May

In May 2025, Colombia's imports saw a significant increase of 10.8% compared to the same period last year, amounting to USD 6.13 billion. This marked a recovery from the previous month's 0.8% decline. The growth was largely driven by a 14.1% surge in manufactured goods, which comprised 74.2% of the total imports, totaling USD 4.55 billion. Specifically, machinery and transport equipment imports increased by 16.5%, and there was a 14.2% rise in chemical products. Additionally, imports of agricultural goods, food, and beverages rose by 9.4%. Conversely, there was a 5.3% decrease in the imports of fuel and extractive industry products, particularly highlighted by a 16.9% decline in oil and oil-derived goods. China emerged as Colombia's leading import partner, contributing to 26.5% of the purchases, surpassing the United States at 24.8%, with Brazil trailing in third at 5.1%.
