Spain Jobless Rate Falls to 17-Year Low

In the second quarter of 2025, Spain's unemployment rate declined to 10.29%, dropping from 11.36% in the previous quarter and marking its lowest level since 2008. This figure is also below the market expectations of 10.7%. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 236,100, totaling 2.5531 million. Concurrently, employment rose by 503,300, reaching a workforce of 22.27 million individuals. The overall working population experienced growth as well, increasing by 267,200 to a total of 24.82 million. Unemployment reductions were observed among both men and women, with the number of unemployed men decreasing by 107,000 and unemployed women by 129,100. This resulted in the female unemployment rate dropping by 1.22 percentage points to 11.50%, and the male rate by 0.94 percentage points to 9.20%. Analyzing by nationality, unemployment among Spaniards (including dual nationals) decreased by 203,200, while among foreigners, it fell by 32,900. Job growth was evident across all sectors, with service industries gaining 364,800 positions, the industrial sector adding 90,300 jobs, construction seeing an increase of 45,400 roles, and the agricultural sector adding 2,800 jobs.
