In June 2025, the United States experienced a decline in job openings, which decreased by 275,000 to a total of 7.437 million, falling short of market expectations set at 7.55 million. Significant drops in job vacancies were noted in sectors such as accommodation and food services, which saw a decrease of 308,000; health care and social assistance, down by 244,000; and finance and insurance, which declined by 142,000. Conversely, an uptick in job openings was observed in retail trade, with an increase of 190,000; the information sector, which rose by 67,000; and state and local government education, which increased by 61,000. Geographically, the Northeast experienced a reduction of 106,000 job openings, the South saw a decline of 130,000, and the Midwest faced a decrease of 149,000. On the other hand, the metrics for hires and total separations remained relatively stable at 5.2 million and 5.1 million, respectively. More specifically, the number of quits stayed unchanged at 3.1 million, as did layoffs and discharges, which held steady at 1.6 million.
