In June 2025, Germany experienced a 1.0% month-over-month increase in retail sales, surpassing market expectations of a 0.5% rise and reversing a previously revised 0.6% decline from the month before. This marks the first increase since March, as there was expansion in both the food sector, which grew by 0.3%, and the non-food sector, which saw a 1.8% increase. Online sales demonstrated a significant growth of 9.0%. Examining the figures on an annual basis, retail sales climbed by 4.9%, showing a notable acceleration from the 2.6% increase observed in May and representing the fastest growth rate since February 2022. This improvement was propelled by gains in the food sector, up 0.9%, and a substantial rise in the non-food sector at 7.4%, with online sales escalating by 20.4%.
