The number of seasonally adjusted total dwelling approvals in Australia rose by 11.9% from the previous month, reaching 17,076 units in June 2025. This increase significantly surpassed market predictions of a 2% rise and outstripped the newly adjusted 2.2% growth reported in May. According to preliminary data, this marks the second straight month of increases in dwelling approvals and represents the most robust growth since May 2023. The surge was largely fueled by a substantial 33.1% uptick in approvals for private sector dwellings, excluding houses, compared to an 11.3% increase in May. Conversely, the approval rate for private sector houses experienced a decline, dropping to 2% following a 0.5% increase in the prior month. Regionally, approvals grew in New South Wales (31.5%), Queensland (7.3%), Tasmania (7.2%), and South Australia (2.5%), whereas they decreased in Western Australia (-6.4%) and Victoria (-6.1%).
