In July 2025, electronic card transactions in New Zealand experienced a modest increase of 0.2% from the previous month, after adjusting for seasonal variations, amounting to NZD 6.89 billion. Analyzing by sector, notable spending rises were observed in consumables and hospitality, each increasing by 0.5%, and a significant surge in motor vehicles at 5.2%. Conversely, spending decreased for fuel by 0.1%, apparel by 1.9%, and durables by 0.8%. Over the course of the year, total electronic card spending grew by 1.7% in June, recovering from a 0.3% year-over-year decline observed the month prior.
