Poland Posts First Trade Surplus in 14 Months

Poland experienced a notable shift in its trade balance in June 2025, achieving a €59 million trade surplus after a €533 million deficit in the same month of the previous year. This marks the end of a 13-month period of trade deficits, attributed to an increase in exports alongside a slight reduction in imports. Export figures showed a 1.9% increase from the previous year, reaching €28.0 billion, fueled by stronger shipments in clothing, toys, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural products, alongside a gradual recovery in the automotive industry, specifically passenger cars, buses, and road tractors. Nonetheless, the export of consumer durables continued its decline, reducing their proportion in total exports to the lowest observed in the 21st century. Imports saw a slight decrease of 0.2%, totaling €27.9 billion, primarily due to lower oil prices and restrained activity within the domestic industrial sector. The prior strong growth in consumer goods imports came to a halt in June.
