Romania Current Account Deficit Narrows in June

In June 2025, Romania experienced a reduction in its current account deficit, which decreased to EUR 1,893 million from EUR 3,072 million in June of the previous year. This represents the smallest deficit since January. The improvement was largely due to a decrease in the deficit of the goods account, which fell to EUR -2,464 million from EUR -2,676 million in June 2024, and a reduction in the primary income account deficit, which decreased to EUR -805 million from EUR -1,304 million. Furthermore, the surplus in services rose slightly to EUR 949 million, up from EUR 924 million, and the secondary income balance shifted from a deficit of EUR 15 million to a surplus of EUR 428 million. Despite these positive changes in June, the current account deficit for the first half of the year expanded to EUR 13,897 million, compared to EUR 11,682 million during the same period last year.
