India Passenger Vehicle Sales Rebound

Passenger vehicle sales in India experienced a modest uptick, rising 1.5% year-on-year to reach a six-month low of 301,251 units in July 2025. This marked a recovery from the 6.3% decline seen in the previous month, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). It should be noted that these figures do not include sales data from premium brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and Volvo. Despite the slight increase in sales, anticipations for higher demand are on the horizon due to the approaching festival season and the advantageous effects of the recent RBI repo rate cuts. "With the festival season kicking off with Onam festivities in late August, the Indian auto sector holds a cautiously optimistic view that demand momentum will increase in the upcoming months," stated Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM. On a month-to-month comparison, sales rose by 9.2%, bouncing back from a 9.0% decline in June.
