Canada Factory Sales Growth Revised Slightly Lower

In June 2025, Canada's manufacturing sales experienced a modest increase of 0.3%, reaching CAD 68.5 billion. This rise follows a revised decline of 1.5% in May and contrasts with a prior projection of a 0.4% growth. This upward trend breaks a streak of four consecutive months of decreasing sales. Growth was recorded in 13 out of 21 subsectors, prominently in the petroleum and coal (+11.8%) and food (+2.5%) product subsectors. However, these gains were somewhat negated by a 5% decrease in the transportation equipment subsector. On a year-over-year basis, manufacturing sales contracted by 2.7%. During the second quarter, overall sales dropped by 4.8% to $206.0 billion, marking the most significant quarterly decline since early 2020. This decrease was largely influenced by substantial downturns in the petroleum and coal products (-18.0%), primary metals (-10.6%), and transportation equipment (-6.5%) sectors.
