US Capacity Utilization Slightly Down as Expected

In July 2025, the capacity utilization rate in the US slightly decreased to 77.5% from a revised figure of 77.7% in June, aligning with market predictions of 77.5%. This rate is 2.1 percentage points shy of its long-term average from 1972 to 2024. Within the manufacturing sector, capacity utilization fell by 0.1 percentage point to 76.8%, which is 1.4 points below its historical mean. The mining sector experienced a drop of 0.5 point to reach 90.3%, although it is still 3.8 points above its long-term average. On the other hand, the operating rate for utilities decreased by 0.4 points, settling at 70.0%, significantly trailing its long-term average.
