Baltic Dry Index Halts 3-Day Rise

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, ended its three-day ascent on Monday, declining by approximately 1.1% to reach 2,022 points, the lowest level observed since August 12. This decline is attributed to diminished demand within the larger vessel segment. Specifically, the capesize index, which typically handles cargoes weighing around 150,000 tons, such as iron ore and coal, fell by 2.5% to 3,212 points, marking its lowest since August 7. In contrast, the panamax index, responsible for carrying 60,000 to 70,000 tons of goods like coal or grain, saw a 0.5% increase, reaching 1,630 points. Additionally, the supramax index increased by 0.6% to 1,361 points.
