Trump Widens Metal Tariffs on Hundreds of Goods

The U.S. Commerce Department has expanded its 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum to cover more than 400 additional product categories. This includes items such as auto parts, chemicals, plastics, and furniture components that incorporate these metals. According to the Department of Commerce, the updated tariffs now apply to 407 new product categories and became effective on Monday. In a statement on Tuesday, Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, Jeffrey Kessler, highlighted the importance of this action, stating, "Today's measure broadens the scope of the steel and aluminum tariffs and closes loopholes for circumvention—supporting the ongoing revival of the American steel and aluminum sectors," as reported by Al Jazeera.
