FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Rises to Over 2-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index experienced a slight uptick of 0.3%, reaching 2,046 on Wednesday, marking its highest point since August 8. Reflecting this positive trend, the panamax index, which is indicative of vessels that typically transport 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, surged by 3.1% to an impressive 1,874, its peak level since July 24. Additionally, there was a 0.7% rise in the supramax index, bringing it to 1,447, the highest since May 2024. In contrast, the capesize index, referring to larger vessels that generally carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.4% to 2,989.
