Latvia Retail Sales Growth at 7-Month High

Retail sales in Latvia experienced a 1.7% increase year-on-year in July 2025, improving from a 1.4% rise noted in June. Notable growth was observed in several categories: sales of sporting equipment, games, and toys surged by 38.2%, a significant jump from 5% in June. Sales of cultural and recreational goods rose by 33.2%, compared to 5% previously, while cosmetic and toilet articles saw a 21.2% increase, up from 1.2%. Additionally, electrical household appliances sales grew by 12.3%, compared to 11% in June.

Furthermore, trading activity rebounded for textiles, rugs, wall and floor coverings, demonstrating a 7.3% rise versus a decline of 6.7% in the prior month. Sales conducted via mail order or internet also improved, posting a 2% increase compared to a previous decline of 4.8%. Automotive fuel sales turned around, rising by 0.8% from a 0.4% decrease, and sales via stalls and markets edged up by 0.7%, recovering from a 3.9% drop.

Sales in non-specialised stores experienced a slower decline of 0.3%, down from a 1.5% fall, while sales of food, beverages, and tobacco decreased by 1.4%, an improvement over the 3.2% decline seen earlier. On a month-to-month comparison, retail trade grew by 1.3% in July, following a 0.7% increase in the preceding month.
