The unemployment rate in Macau experienced a slight upward movement to 2.0% in the three-month period concluding in July 2025, marking the highest level since March 2024. This was a small increase from the previous 1.9%. The rise was largely attributed to a wave of new entrants into the labor market, mainly fresh graduates seeking their initial employment opportunities, which boosted their proportion among unemployed residents by 2.7 percentage points to 13.7%. The total count of unemployed individuals saw a modest uptick of 350, reaching 7,600, while overall employment decreased by 300, totaling 371,500. Many job seekers were formerly employed in sectors such as retail, construction, and gaming. The labor force contracted slightly to 379,100, with male labor force participation more pronounced at 70.7% compared to females at 62.8%.
