UK Composite PMI Revised Slightly Higher

In August 2025, the UK's S&P Global Composite PMI experienced a slight upward revision, reaching 53.5 from the preliminary figure of 53.0, and rose from 51.5 in July. This represents the fourth consecutive month of growth, achieving the fastest pace since August 2024. The service sector spearheaded this expansion with a rise to 54.2, up from 51.8 in July, marking a sixteen-month peak. This growth effectively counterbalanced a continued decline in the manufacturing sector, which fell to 47 from 48. The acceleration in output was bolstered by an increase in new orders, marking the second rise in the past three months and the most significant since October 2024. Nevertheless, despite a more optimistic outlook on business activity from firms, job reductions continued, as many companies reported implementing hiring freezes due to excess capacity and pressure on margins from escalating payroll expenses.
