Retail sales in Romania experienced a 4.5% increase year-on-year in July 2025, an improvement from the previously revised 2.6% growth in June. This rise represents the most robust retail activity since February, with a notable surge in automotive fuel sales, which jumped by 11.9% as compared to the mere 0.2% growth seen in June. Additionally, there was a rebound in the trade of food, beverages, and tobacco, with sales increasing by 0.5% after a 0.6% decline in the previous month. However, growth in sales of non-food products slightly decreased to 5.8% from 6.0%. On a month-to-month basis, retail trade saw a 0.3% upswing in July, down from the upwardly revised 1.2% increase recorded in the prior month.
