In June 2025, Austria experienced a trade balance deficit of EUR 1.0156 billion, a reversal from a surplus of EUR 596.7 million recorded in the same month of the previous year. This represented the widest deficit since February 2023, mainly due to a rise in imports and a decline in exports. Imports rose by 1.8% year-on-year, reaching EUR 15.87 billion. This increase was mainly driven by a 6.8% surge in chemical products and a 0.9% uptick in machinery and vehicles. Notably, imports from non-EU countries climbed by 6.3%, while those from EU countries experienced a slight decline of 0.5%. Conversely, exports saw an 8.2% decrease, falling to EUR 14.86 billion, with significant reductions in shipments of chemical products (-20.6%) and machinery and vehicles (-7.6%). The decrease in exports affected both EU countries (-5.1%) and non-EU countries (-14.8%).
