North Macedonia Trade Gap Largest in 7 Months

In July 2025, North Macedonia experienced a significant widening of its trade deficit, which reached $373 million, up from $332.8 million recorded in the same month the prior year. This figure represents the most substantial trade gap observed since December 2024. During this period, exports surged by 12.6% on a year-over-year basis, amounting to $779.4 million. Imports, however, grew at a slightly lower rate of 12.3%, totaling $1,152.3 million.

Looking at the period from January to July, North Macedonia's trade deficit amounted to $2,152.4 million. Exports during this timeframe saw a 5.4% increase compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $5,206.8 million. This upturn was largely attributed to stronger sales in sectors such as beverages and tobacco (34.4%), animal and vegetable oils, fats, and waxes (32.4%), and non-fuel raw materials (10.2%). In parallel, imports rose by 4.8%, totaling $7,359.3 million, with notable increases in the acquisition of animal and vegetable oils, fats, and waxes (24.3%), beverages and tobacco (13.9%), and food and live animals (8.3%).
