U.S. to Lower Tariffs on Japanese Autos by September 16

Japan's tariff negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, has announced that U.S. tariffs on Japanese goods, including cars and auto parts, are scheduled to decrease by September 16. This information was shared via an X post on Tuesday and is based on a U.S. Federal Register notice dated September 9, which formalizes President Donald Trump’s executive order regarding the bilateral trade agreement. The new tariff rates will be effective within seven days of the notice's publication. This executive order, signed by President Trump last week, eliminates the uncertainty surrounding the implementation timeline for the reduced 15% tariffs on Japanese automobiles, as agreed upon by the two countries in their July trade deal.
