Mining production in South Africa saw a notable increase of 4.4% in July 2025 compared to the same period last year. This growth accelerated from a revised increase of 2.5% in May and surpassed market expectations of a 3.2% rise. It is the third consecutive month of growth in the mining sector and marks the most significant increase since September of the previous year. The main contributors to this surge were iron ore, which climbed by 12.2%, PGMs (Platinum Group Metals) with a 6.2% increase, and other metallic minerals, which soared by 45.8%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, mining output rose by 1% in July, following a revised increase of 0.4% in the preceding month.
