Moldova Trade Gap Widens in July

Moldova experienced a significant increase in its trade deficit, which expanded to USD 558.1 million in July 2025 compared to USD 503.5 million in July 2024. Export activities grew by 21.8% year-on-year, reaching USD 347 million, largely driven by a 41.1% rise in sales to EU countries. However, there was a decline in exports to non-EU and CIS countries, falling by 17.9% and 6.8% respectively. Concurrently, imports saw a 14.8% increase, totaling USD 905.1 million, as purchases from the EU rose by 21% and from other countries by 11.4%, despite a 30.4% drop in imports from CIS countries. Over the first seven months of this year, the trade deficit widened to USD 4,074.5 million from USD 3,039.2 million in the same period of the previous year.
