Hong Kong Manufacturing Output Edges Up in Q2 2025

In the second quarter of 2025, manufacturing production in Hong Kong experienced a modest uptick of 0.9% compared to the same period the previous year, improving slightly from a 0.7% increase observed in the prior quarter. Notable growth was recorded in the output of food, beverages, and tobacco, which bounced back by 2.0% after a decline of 0.3% in the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, there was a minor increase in miscellaneous manufacturing industries, which saw a rise of 0.7% compared to the previous 0.8%.

Despite these positive developments, the overall gains were somewhat diminished by a significant contraction in the textiles and wearing apparel sector, which plummeted by 5.7% following a previous gain of 0.9%. Growth also slowed in the production of paper products, printing, and media reproduction, which rose by only 1.5%, down from a 2.9% increase, and in the category encompassing metal, computer, electronics, and optical products, machinery, and equipment, which experienced a reduced growth rate of 0.2%, falling from 2.3%.

When adjusted for seasonal variations, manufacturing output saw a 0.3% increase in Q2 2025, marking a recovery from the 0.5% decline observed in the quarter before.
