Sweden's unemployment rate climbed to 8.4% in August 2025, an increase from 7.9% during the same month the previous year. This rise reflects an additional 33,000 individuals without jobs, bringing the total number of unemployed persons to 486,000. Meanwhile, employment figures saw an uplift with an increase of 29,000, totaling 5.32 million employed individuals. Despite this growth in employment, the employment rate experienced a slight decline of 0.1 percentage points to 69.7%, while the labor force participation rate improved by 0.5 percentage points to 76.1%. The average total number of hours worked weekly reached 130.6 million. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate stood at 8.7%.
