Indonesia Jan-August Budget Deficit at 1.35% of GDP

Indonesia reported a budget deficit of IDR 321.6 trillion (USD 19.38 billion) for the January to August 2025 period, representing 1.35% of the country's GDP, according to Finance Ministry data released on Monday. During the same timeframe, total revenues amounted to IDR 1,639 trillion, marking a decrease of 7.8% compared to the same period in 2024, whereas total expenditures increased by 1.5% year-over-year to IDR 1,960 trillion. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated, as conveyed by Reuters, "We need to accelerate government spending through year-end to achieve our spending targets." He previously highlighted the importance of boosting government expenditure towards the end of the year in order to support the economic growth target of 5.2% for 2025. Indonesia has consistently achieved a growth rate of around 5% over recent years, with the second quarter of 2025 registering growth of 5.12%, the highest since 2023.
