The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key indicator monitoring shipping rates for dry commodity transportation, climbed for its third consecutive day on Thursday. It gained 26 points, reaching its highest level since March 2024, at 2,266 points. The capesize index, which generally involves transporting cargoes of about 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal, increased by 68 points, bringing it to 3,641 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, typically associated with the carriage of 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw an uplift of 11 points, closing at 1,835 points. In contrast, the index for smaller vessels, the supramax, remained steady at 1,483 points.
