German Unemployment Holds at 6.3%

In September, Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 6.3%, aligning with market expectations. This figure represents the highest rate since September 2020, indicating persistent challenges in the labor market. The number of unemployed individuals rose by 14,000, reaching 2.98 million, which is twice the increase that analysts had anticipated. On an unadjusted basis, unemployment exceeded 3 million for the first time in a decade, highlighting the pressure on the workforce. According to Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Labour Office, the job market is finding it hard to gain momentum amid a sluggish economy that has yet to provide sufficient recovery stimuli.
