Austria Inflation Rate Slows in September

Inflation in Austria witnessed a slight deceleration, easing to 4% in September 2025 from the almost 18-month peak of 4.1% registered in August, according to preliminary data. "The service sector continued to be the primary driver of price increases, posting a 4.7% rise. However, the upward trajectory slowed for categories such as food, tobacco, and alcohol, which increased by 3.8%, down from 5.0% in August. Inflation in industrial goods also moderated, registering a 1.4% increase compared to 2.2% in the preceding month. Conversely, the energy sector experienced heightened price momentum, escalating to 7.9% from 5.9% in August, due to persistently high electricity costs and the absence of fuel's previously mitigating effect on prices," explained Manuela Lenk, the Director General of Statistics Austria. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices declined by 0.2% in September, countering the 0.2% increase observed in August.
