In August 2025, the retail trade growth in Portugal decelerated to 4.5% year-over-year, following a 6.2% increase in July. Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco rose by 4.6%, compared to 5.8% the previous month, while non-food goods showed a 4.5% increase, down from 6.5%. This slowdown was influenced by more modest growth in sectors such as textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods, which rose by 7.5% compared to 8.7% in July, and computers, telecommunications equipment, books, and other products, which saw an increase of 7.8% compared to 8.5%. Additionally, there were declines in fuel sales, which dropped by 3.2% after a previous rise of 1.2%, and household goods, which slightly decreased by 0.1% following a 5.5% increase. On a month-to-month basis, retail trade decreased by 0.7% in August, marking the second straight month of decline.
