In the week ending September 26, US energy companies injected a below-average 53 billion cubic feet of natural gas into storage, falling short of market forecasts set at 67 billion cubic feet. This figure compares to a 54 billion cubic feet increase during the same week last year, and is notably lower than the five-year average build of 85 billion cubic feet for this time of year. The recent addition brings the total natural gas stored in the lower 48 states to 3.561 trillion cubic feet, which is 0.6% higher than the corresponding period last year and 5% above the current five-year average.
