France Industrial Output Misses Expectations

In August 2025, France experienced a 0.7% decline in industrial production compared to the previous month. This follows a revised 0.1% decrease in July and contrasts with anticipated growth of 0.3%. Manufacturing output decreased by 0.8%, worsening from July's 0.5% decline. The drop was significantly influenced by a reduction in transport equipment production, which fell by 4.5%, with other transport equipment plummeting by 6.0%, a stark reversal from June's 17.3% increase. Additionally, production in coke and refined petroleum products saw a substantial decrease of 4.7%, following a 4.2% rise previously. Similarly, the food and beverages sector experienced a slight decline of 0.3%, compared to a 1.2% drop in July. Conversely, there was a recovery in machinery and equipment goods, which increased by 1.2%, maintaining momentum from the preceding month's 1.1% rise. Other manufacturing sectors showed modest growth of 0.2%. The mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply sectors also saw a downturn, slipping by 0.6%, following a 1.6% increase previously.
