Norway Jobseekers Highest Since 2022

The number of individuals registered as unemployed in Norway increased to a seasonally adjusted 64,400 in September 2025, slightly up from a revised figure of 64,300 the previous month. This represents the highest level since January 2022 and accounts for 2.1% of the workforce. Unemployment rates climbed across most occupational sectors, with tourism and transportation experiencing the highest rate at 2.9% of the workforce, while academic professions saw the lowest rate at 0.9%. Regionally, Oslo and Østfold registered the highest unemployment rates at 2.8%, whereas Troms reported the lowest rate at 1.2%. Despite the rise in unemployment, labor demand remained robust, with 43,300 job vacancies advertised in September, translating to 1,800 vacancies per working day and representing an 11% decrease from the previous year. The most significant demand was seen in health, nursing and care, retail and sales, service occupations, and other sectors. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the number of fully unemployed individuals decreased to 62,000 in September from 64,700 in August.
