In August 2025, Hungary experienced a 2.4% increase in retail sales compared to the same month the previous year, marking an improvement from the 1.7% growth seen in July. This boost was primarily fueled by a significant rise in non-food product sales, which jumped to 4.9% from 2.9% in the prior month. Meanwhile, sales in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector maintained a steady growth rate of 2.3%. Additionally, the automotive fuel sector saw a noteworthy recovery with a 2.2% increase, bouncing back from a 2.4% decline in July. On a month-to-month basis, with seasonal adjustments, retail sales rose by 0.8% in August, recovering from the 0.5% dip recorded in the previous period. Overall, retail sales from January to August were 2.8% higher than during the same timeframe the previous year.
