In September 2025, new car sales in the UK experienced a 13.7% increase compared to the same month the previous year, totaling 312,891 units—marking the most robust September showing since 2020. Growth spanned across all market segments, with fleet registrations seeing the highest rise of 16.9%, amounting to 174,336 units. Private consumer purchases also increased by 8.9%, reaching 131,003 units, and business registrations surged by 28.6% to 7,552 units. This growth was propelled by substantial manufacturer investments and a wider array of model options, bolstered by the newly introduced Electric Car Grant. Consequently, there was a record-setting number of 72,779 new battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations, the largest ever for a single month. When combined with hybrid models, electrified vehicles now constitute the majority of new registrations. Overall, the market has risen by 4.2% for the year-to-date, with the BEV market share increasing to 22.1%, following the second most fruitful sales month of the year.
