Japan's foreign reserves experienced a noteworthy increase of $17.1 billion, reaching a total of $1.34 trillion in September 2025. This marks the highest reserve level since March 2022. The reserve composition includes $1.15 trillion in foreign currency assets, $11.27 billion positioned in the IMF, $60.90 billion in Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), $104.05 billion in gold, and an additional $16.33 billion in other reserve assets. The Finance Ministry had previously confirmed that no foreign exchange interventions took place from April to June 2025. However, data for the September quarter is still pending release.
